Gerard "Gerry" Fox gave opening remarks and introduced the evening's speaker, Dr. Gigi Johnson, the Director of the UCLA Center for Music Innovation.
Dr. Gigi Johnson is an “action futurist,” wrestling with how creators and innovators can work together to build positive futures. She founded the UCLA Center for Music Innovation to bring musicians, companies, tech innovators, venues, and other creators together to explore how tech is changing music. Since 1999, she has built courses and programs at UCLA Anderson and UCLA Alpert for students and executives on digital disruption of media. Outside of UCLA, she runs the Maremel Institute, where she creates educational platforms, advises company leaders, and speaks internationally on future impacts of digital disruption on media and cultural systems. Dr. Johnson recently has founded alt-NEXT, a non-profit corporation building workforce development programs for creative and tech sectors. Her corporate experience includes a decade financing media M&A at Bank of America. She received her EdD from Fielding Graduate University, her MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and her BA in Film & TV Production from the University of Southern California. She has been interviewed on music and media change on BBC, NPR, the LA Times, and dozens of news articles and broadcasts.
